Ready Steady Panic!!
Chris Carnegie was selected for the BBC program Ready
Steady Cook
Being a quality local producer of pastes and sauces is one
thing but being organic as well, made the Westcountry Spice
Company stand out from the crowd. It all started with an
e-mail followed by a quick succession of phone calls from
the TV studios for "Ready
Steady Cook" in London requesting that the
Westcountry Spice Company be the first producer to introduce
one of their own products onto the show for the "Goody Bag
Challenge".
This left Chris Carnegie (MD Westcountry Spice) in no doubt
that this was a good idea. A questionnaire about Chris'
own food preferences and a few questions about the Westcountry
Spice Company's background were needed before filming. Chris
selected the Spice Company's best selling product- "Moorish"
to be cooked with some chicken and lentils.
"Panic!"
Right at the last minute just as Chris had set off to London,
he received a call from the studios to say " we've changed
the bag." All the ingredients had changed, now to include
a simple piece of fish a few tomatoes and some spinach.
Fortunately Chris Carnegie had a few other samples with
him and substituted the "Moorish" for delicately balanced
"Thai Red". His first thought was that this was
going to be a tough challenge with so few ingredients in
such a short time. But given the creativity of Ainsley
Harriott and the other chefs and especially the
versatility of the paste he knew this would be enjoyable
to watch. On arrival at the studios Chris was given a behind
the scenes tour of the studios followed by a comfy seat
in front of a monitor watching another recording. Chris
was then invited into the studio and was asked to be a studio
guest whilst the main filming took place. Ainsley introduced
himself to Chris on set and had a brief conversation about
organic foods and how the Westcountry Spice Company got
started whilst the chefs decide what to make.
The studio audience then voted for the most mouth-watering
suggestion by celebrity chef Nick
Nairn's.
Within ten minutes four very different dishes were selected
reaffirming the quality and versatility of the Westcountry
Spice pastes. Holby
City actors Sharon Clarke, who plays Lola
and Luke Roberts who plays Joseph
Byrne were the celebrity guests Sharon thought the
dishes were amazing and was so impressed she was keen to
make sure Chris put her on his client list. The show will
be televised on Feb. 20th at 4.30 on BBC 2.

Our new product launch.
After just over a year of market research, trials and testing.
Politely offering tastings to people Bar-B-Queuing on beaches
to find out what they thought of our new tomato sauce, with
very positive feedback. We can proudly announce it's launch!

Aimed at the connoisseur, our sauce has a smooth velvety texture,
bursting with a ripe tomato flavour, with a subtle combination
of carefully selected herbs and spices. It's an ideal compliment
to the traditional cooked breakfast, Bar-B-Q's, roasts, mash,
sandwiches and whatever else you like to use it with.
Being Westcountry Spice Company, we couldn't develop a delicately
infused tomato sauce without enjoying the adventure of creating
a spiced up version. So we found what people really wanted from
a spicy tomato sauce and created it.
Its smooth, it's still bursting with tomatoes yet it has an
interesting blend of herbs and flavoursome spices, which compliment
any dish. It doesn't kick the back of your throat like many
spicy sauces.
It does leave your pallet feeling refreshed and excited, ready
for another mouthful, its very Moorish.
In trials, we found that 99% of the people surveyed preferred
our new Tomato sauces to their usual brand.
Coming soon.
Our new OhSo Saucy Sauce, its what I would call a cross
between a brown sauce and a fruity sauce. It's a great alternative
to ketchup; it has intriguing flavours, which compliment your
food. It's great as an alternative ketchup or BBQ sauce or for
mixing with Crème Fraiche or yoghurt as a dip. This will be
ready in early 2008.
